The predicted snowfall (4 inches) hasn’t materialized, despite a Winter Weather Advisory that expired at midnight.

Driving East on Highway 108 at 9:00 p.m. the road sign announced that Sonora Pass was closed and chain restrictions are in effect East of Strawberry. The temperature has dropped to 36 degrees over night, it never rose about 44 degrees all day yesterday, though we did end up with a few precious moments of much needed sunshine.

Freezing overnight temps

I can’t believe I’m saying this but we had below freezing temperatures last night. I had to actually dig out the ice melt — the stairs, sidewalk and deck are all covered with ice. My advice? If you don’t have to leave the house yet, don’t.

The current temperature in Twain Harte is 36°, so it’s warming up today but it hasn’t warmed enough to melt all of the ice on the ground. The roads will be slippery, so use caution during these early morning hours, if you must drive.

According to MyMotherlode.com, we can expect more of the same, until Wednesday.

Another Sierra Winter Storm Warning Issued

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Sierra Nevada from Monday 4 PM through Wednesday 11 AM.

Two to four inches of snow accumulation is possible above 4000 feet. Five to ten inches of snow could fall above 5500 feet. Ten to eighteen inches of snow is likely above 6000 feet. One to two feet of snow may fall above 7500 through 8000 feet.

If you’ve planted your flower or vegetable garden already, I hope you were able to cover your plants with plastic, straw or even a tarp to help protect them from the freezing May temperatures.  It won’t be easy keeping them warm over the next day or two.

Try to stay warm and avoid traveling until the roads clear up.  🙂

I try to post here on the blog as regularly as possible, but I’ll just be frank, this is a small town and I don’t hang out at the local tavern, so you won’t find local gossip here.  🙂  I post when I find something that I think others might be interested in reading about.

When I have a quick news item or weather update to post, I generally pop it up on Facebook, since it only takes a second or two. Of course, the in-depth stuff, like my regular banter regarding the local wildlife can always be found here.

I would like to encourage Twain Harte/Sonora area locals to post here as well. You can submit your article or news item as a comment and I’ll be happy to post it for you and remove it from comments. Anyone who would like to post regularly should contact me directly or send a request through the system.

Thanks for visiting, please invite others who are interested in Twain Harte area events, weather and news.
