Observations…

The local wildlife has really started to move about more now that the days have started getting warmer (mind you, I didn’t say “warm”) and gradually days are getting longer.

My favorite part of the day is just before dawn, the forest comes alive with the sounds of many chirping birds. It’s like music to the ears. The baby birds have started to stir, urging mama to get up and greet the day. It’s amazing to listen as they call back and forth to one another.

The sunshine feels incredible on the skin. Shorts and t-shirts are back; jackets and jeans, not so much. Even the caterpillars are taking advantage. They can be seen sunning themselves on a regular basis these days. So, be careful where you walk. I can hardly wait for all the butterflies to emerge later this year.

As soon as the sun sets you can feel the chill in the air, so don’t forget to pack your long pants and jackets, you’ll be thankful to have them. It always amazes me when friends from the valley come to visit (sometimes to play in the snow even) and they leave behind their coats, boots, gloves, etc…

It’s actually very nice to have this unusual break between winter and summer, last year I swear spring only lasted for two weeks. Summer was much too long for my taste, so this is a wonderful change of pace.

We seem to have attracted another turkey and we have five deer stop off last night — two of them were fighting. I plan to dig out the binoculars to assist me in locating an owl, I know there has to be owls nearby. Any suggestions for how to attract owls? My husband has warned me against it, he thinks it will fly off with our cat. I think he’s being silly. What do you think?

Summer Winding Down

Twain Harte Mini GolfJudging from the traffic around town over the weekend the concert in the park was a big hit. There were people everywhere. The weather was perfect – not too hot, not too cold.

What a treat – it actually rained for quite sometime last night. It was a nice gentle summer rain that took place over several hours, kind of unusal for this time of year, but a welcome relief. It’s almost 10 a.m. and it’s only 65 degrees outside. Perfect weather for taking a hike or riding a bike around town.

You know, it simply amazes me at how many people are actually able to ride their bike up Fuller hill. I’ve tried it many time and have only managed to make it to the church parking lot, then I am forced to dismount and walk my bike up the hill. I simply don’t know how they manage it.

Road Work Update

The crews have been working very sporadically but nothing significant has been done. Paving has not begun yet. I plan to call someone tomorrow and see if I can get some facts to post. Crews did such a good job on 108 and were done so quickly, it was amazing. Let’s hope this job is over just as quickly.

Labor Day Weekend

Twain Harte will be bustling with people over the Labor Day Weekend. Be sure to drive safely. Don’t forget breakfast:

It’s been a busy week in Twain Harte, especially now that the heat has let up — at least temporarily. It was a blissful 90° yesterday.

This weekend the town will swell for the 24th Annual Twain Harte Summer Arts & Wine Festival being held July 24-25, in downtown Twain Harte. Folks will enjoy arts and crafts, live entertainment, dancing, wine tasting and food. Want more information? Call (209) 533-3473.

I’ve been adding new pictures to the Twain Harte Times Photo Gallery and plan to add many more in the days and weeks to come. I just love this new blog. So, be sure to check back often.
