Thai not ready for prime time

We stopped in at Sonora Thai Cuisine restaurant in Sonora today.  We parked a block away, because you know how parking is downtown. Impossible!  I just love rice noodles and mine just don’t turn out right, no matter how hard I try.

Sonora Thai Cuisine - Restaurant | 51 S Washington St, Sonora, CA ...

It’s about 3:00 p.m., the sun is beating down, it’s hot. The menu is outside and the phone number posted on the window. After looking over the menu, I was ready to order, so I tried calling, the phone is busy. I see the door is open, so I go inside. The lady inside, walks to the middle of the room, tells me to call, I told her I tried to call and the line was busy.  I ordered the Pad See Ew and the lady disappeared into the kitchen.

Another lady showed up, she told me to call.  I explained that I had already ordered.  She went and prepared my bill, stood in the middle of the room and shouted the amount, and asked if we were paying by cash or credit.  My husband told her cash and passed her a $100 bill across the tables they had surrounding the door, so there was a small square to stand in.  She took the $100 bill, sprayed in with something and came back with our change.  She held the money with two fingers.

After we paid, she asks us to wait outside.  So, we went outside in the hot sun and waited for our food.  After about 15-minutes, my husband started to talk about how we had to walk to our car after we finally got our food.  That scared me, walking up hill in that heat.  I went back inside, where the air conditioner cooled the building quite nicely.  I faced the door and tried to be unobtrusive. A few minutes later, she brought my food to the door, and if looks could kill, I’d have been dead on the spot.

These ladies should not be open.  It been a long time since I’ve felt so unwanted.  The food was good, but I won’t be going back there until  things go back to normal.  That was just too creepy.

News for Twain Harte

We’ve had snow on and off again but not any accumulation to speak of.  I have however heard many more police sirens than is usual for Twain Harte.  Well, at least I assume it’s police, could be the ambulance, we hope not.

English: Field in or just outside of Twain Har...

Winter fun up the hill from Twain Harte, California

It’s still 37 degrees in Soulsbyville, but the higher you go, the more the temperature drops.  It’s currently 28 degrees F. in Twain Harte right now. Cold enough for the roads to freeze.  Be sure to slow down on these mountain roads, it’s easy enough to hit a patch of ice and spin out of control.  You could end up in tree or worse.

Friday Snowplay will be opening!  I hope all you snowbunnies have fun out there on the tubes. The trip up and back should be a good one. Things can happen. Be sure you are prepared for the weather, you never know when your going to have to wait for a tow truck.  Assuming of course you have cell service with which to call.

You can find many Winter Driving Emergency Survival Tips here. Be safe!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Grand Jury off to rocky start

Posted by Annie in Opinion, Political, Tuolumne County, Twain Harte News on August 30, 2013

Hm… I was at the grocery store and ran into a couple of co-grand jury members. Apparently, I’m not the only one who feels that something is up with the Tuolumne County Grand Jury.

  1. This is the first year that Judge Donald Segerstrom oversees the jury. (Nothing wrong with that.)
  2. The judge hand picks the foreman, who just happens to be about the judges age, and guess what? He used to be a prosecutor some where in the bay.
  3. The first day we go in and have a seat. He already has rules posted on the wall. (This should have been my first clue.)
  4. Up until I left, they had gone through 5 jury members and I know for a fact at least two other left since I did. The lady I spoke with today at the store, said they were leaving in droves.

The jury foreman is a heavy handed, old-fashioned tyrant.  I don’t think this is by accident.  I think he has an agenda, but I can’t prove it.

He thought I should leave because I don’t ride with other people.  He acted like it was a big deal.  It’s none of his business. He said it would cost the county too much money.  I could have stayed and fought, but it just wasn’t worth it to me.  He wanted me to leave, I gave him what he wanted.  There were other issues as well. Like the fact that I didn’t sit at the table with everyone.

Stupid petty stuff that doesn’t matter to anyone.  Except him.  He’s definitely set in his ways.

What it really came down to is that as a grand jury member I was bound by secrecy.  I’m not so good with secrets.  As far as I’m concerns secrets are made to be told.  I have kept a couple of secrets in my life but that’s about it.

I believe they had already gone through each of the standby jurors.  They will be looking for more.  What they need is a new foreman.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with in their report. Assuming, of course, that the grand jury isn’t disbanded like the grand jury in El Dorado County earlier this year.
