Any day now!

I’ve been holding off planting any flowers and it’s a good thing. We got 2″ inches of snow last night.

As a matter of fact, it was so nice last weekend, so I spread some grass seed. I don’t think it’s going to sprout though because two days later, we got 14″ of the fluffy white stuff. This is the craziest spring I’ve ever seen.

In some places we don’t have any snow at all, then in others it totally blanketed. The moisture content is high too.

I wonder how the folks up the hill are doing? I’ll bet Dodge Ridge is going strong today. They’re expecting 2″ – 4″ inches more. It’s not much, but it’ll make the runs a little nicer.

I don’t expect this snow to stick around long, it’s still coming down and you can’t really tell if it’s raining or snowing anymore. It’s just that inbetween stuff, and it looks pretty gloomy outside.

Even the deer think this weather is for the birds.

Hopefully, it won’t snow clear through to June. It snowed a couple of years ago in JUNE. Who knows what tomorrow with bring?

Snow in the Mountains

Wow, what a difference a day makes. Last night it rained fairly hard, but we only managed to get 2.5 inches of rain. Around midnight or so, it began to snow. We didn’t get a lot, only about 3″, but it was so beautiful…while it lasted. It’s raining again.

Snowshoeing at Dodge Ridge

Snowshoeing at Dodge Ridge

Things will be winding down at Dodge Ridge, so if you’re going to tackle the slopes, this would be the weekend to do it. The news from Dodge is…

23″ in the last 24 hours – Season Pass Holders Load at 8am Tomorrow!

3/16/12 – 8:20am: In the last 24 hours we received 23″ of fresh powder at the summit & 15″ at the base & expect additional accumulations today with more for tonight thru Sunday, snow levels down to 4,000ft.

All you snow hounds will love that. So, do drive carefully. The roads are clear now, but if you do travel to Dodge Ridge this weekend, take it easy going home. As the temperatures drop on the mountain, the chances of ice on the road increases.

Spring begins on March 20th this year. So, while we may get a little more snow, we can’t stop Spring from coming. Those of you who hate the snow — it will all be over soon.

The News in Twain Harte

Rumors tend to run wild in small communities and Twain Harte is no exception. Those who have their ear to the ground will have heard that the Sierra Mountain Times is changing hands beginning the first of the year.

Shawn and I are excited to hear that our dear friend Tim McCaffrey, son of the proprietors of the elegant McCaffrey House Bed & Breakfast Inn, located at 23251 Highway 108, Twain Harte, CA has purchased the local business. Tim was previously the director of advertising while employed with the Twain Harte Times, the precursor to the Sierra Mountain Times.

Congratulations Tim! The Hall family will look forward to the changes Tim is sure to implement at the Sierra Mountain Times.

Wishing all of you mountain folk a very Merry Christmas. The weather now quite nippy, according to the Dodge Ridge website they are preparing to open up the slopes. They are expecting plenty of snow over the next four or five days. Chances are good they could open up at any time. That’s good news for the Christmas Ski Bunnies.

From all accounts business is good for many local merchants but people are cautious about the coming months and are tightening their belts in anticipation of a further economic downturn. On the other hand, there are some terrific bargains to be had this Christmas season. Shop with care…

One last thing, I almost forgot. A few of the surrounding communitities seem to have developed crime waves as the economy has suffered in recent months. Twain Harte residents and vacationers would do well to keep a watchful eye out, just in case vandals and thieves decide to commit their dastardly deeds in our neighborhood.
