Bad Behavior Will Not Be Tolerated

A peaceful protest was held yesterday in downtown Sonora.  Residents have been holding their breath, especially after out of town guests checked into the local hotels. A curfew was put in place after the Sonora City Council held an emergency meeting, the subject was the Black Lives Matter protest held at the Courthouse Park. In a unanimous vote the council approved a curfew that will run overnight from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., effective immediately, but could be extended.

It saddened me greatly to read this post on social media:

“To the kid that thought it was perfectly ok to get out and smash in the window of the car sitting in the Twain Harte market parking lot…you and the others in the car should be ABSOLUTELY ASHAMED of yourself. Kid had to have been between the ages of 12-15. Sad, this small town will not deal with that kind of behavior…uncalled! Report was made. Learn to have respect for others property.”

Here is the story… Black Lives Matter Protest in Sonora, links to videos included. ‌ ‌ ‌

It’s a shame that people can’t behave themselves. I don’t know if this was a related incident but I hope the police apprehend the individual and prosecute the person to the fullest extent of the law.

What really upsets me the most is all these people protesting that don’t even have…or want…the full story.

Update:

Fast forward just a couple days and now we know that the new Contact Tracing feature imposed by Apple and Google, who promised it would never be used for any reason other than tracing COVID19, is actively being used by local governments to track and arrest “protesters.” That didn’t take long.

Thai not ready for prime time

We stopped in at Sonora Thai Cuisine restaurant in Sonora today.  We parked a block away, because you know how parking is downtown. Impossible!  I just love rice noodles and mine just don’t turn out right, no matter how hard I try.

Sonora Thai Cuisine - Restaurant | 51 S Washington St, Sonora, CA ...

It’s about 3:00 p.m., the sun is beating down, it’s hot. The menu is outside and the phone number posted on the window. After looking over the menu, I was ready to order, so I tried calling, the phone is busy. I see the door is open, so I go inside. The lady inside, walks to the middle of the room, tells me to call, I told her I tried to call and the line was busy.  I ordered the Pad See Ew and the lady disappeared into the kitchen.

Another lady showed up, she told me to call.  I explained that I had already ordered.  She went and prepared my bill, stood in the middle of the room and shouted the amount, and asked if we were paying by cash or credit.  My husband told her cash and passed her a $100 bill across the tables they had surrounding the door, so there was a small square to stand in.  She took the $100 bill, sprayed in with something and came back with our change.  She held the money with two fingers.

After we paid, she asks us to wait outside.  So, we went outside in the hot sun and waited for our food.  After about 15-minutes, my husband started to talk about how we had to walk to our car after we finally got our food.  That scared me, walking up hill in that heat.  I went back inside, where the air conditioner cooled the building quite nicely.  I faced the door and tried to be unobtrusive. A few minutes later, she brought my food to the door, and if looks could kill, I’d have been dead on the spot.

These ladies should not be open.  It been a long time since I’ve felt so unwanted.  The food was good, but I won’t be going back there until  things go back to normal.  That was just too creepy.

Sonora Pass was closed briefly after the storms, but was opened a couple days later.  To tell you the truth, I’m really surprised they have opened it for Memorial Day.  This is a maximum enforcement weekend though, and the police are out in force. I guess they have to pay for their salary some way.

It’s supposed to by a hot weekend.  Weather reports are saying it could hit 100°F on Monday.  Wow!

The tourists were out in droves today. I hope the local businesses are busy this weekend.

I can’t believe how many people are still wearing masks.  They really do more harm that good and I’ve heard that from more that one prominent physician.   Wearing masks may increase your risk of coronavirus infection, expert says.

People were good about “social distancing,” that wanted social distance.  Many people didn’t seem as scared as they once were, heck I even got a few hugs from willing friends.  Did you know that hugs are actually good for you? Better than masks, no doubt.

Health Benefits of Hugging: The Important Reason Why Your Body Needs A Hug Every Day!

Hugs can boost immunity

“It’s been shown that people who are under stress and in conflict with others are more susceptible to viruses like the common cold. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University set out to determine whether social support, such as hugging, might in turn be protective against such infections.

It turns out their hypothesis was right. Among 404 adults, those who had greater social support and more frequent hugs during conflicts were less likely to “catch” a cold after they were exposed to the virus. The hugs, researchers said, were responsible for about one-third of the protective effect.”

PG&E are still doing repairs to damaged utility poles around town.

East Avenue is currently closed between Fir Drive and Twain Harte Drive. A detour route is in place. East Avenue will remain closed until the work is completed. It is not immediately clear how long it will take, so you will want to avoid the area.
