Motorized Travel Plan Released For Stanislaus National Forest

Sonora, CA -- Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Susan Skalski has finalized the new Motorized Travel Management plan that shows where vehicles are allowed to travel in the Forest.

"This decision prohibits the cross country travel of vehicles, and there will be a designated system of roads and trails for which people can recreate," says Skalski. The plan adds 136 miles of existing unauthorized routes to the Forest trail system.

The Rock To Reopen But Not At The Rock

Twain Harte's Rock Restaurant will reopen tomorrow morning for breakfast only it won't be at The Rock.

For the next couple of months while the Fuller Road building is being repaired from that November 11th midnight fire The Rock will take over the Court Side Bar and Grill in the Village Plaza.

In search of the perfect dinner roll

I was asked to bring the dinner rolls. Under normal circumstances, I would have used my breadmaker to whip some up but I had received my very first KitchenAid 5-Quart Mixer and I was excited about using it.

The search began for the perfect dinner roll recipe. I tried several I had found online that were taunted as "the best dinner rolls" only to be sorely disappointed. I wanted these to be special -- the rolls are an important part of the meal and they simply had to be perfect.

Sierra Nevada Winter Storm Warning Friday - Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra Nevada mountains from Friday 4 PM through Saturday 7 AM.

Snow levels could drop to as low as 3000 feet. Five to ten inches of snow is possible between 4500 to 7000 feet in the Sierra. A foot or two of snow is likely at the higher elevations.

California Implements New Energy Standards For Televisions

Sacramento, CA -- Televisions sold in California will have to be more energy efficient in the coming years.

The California Energy Commission voted unanimously today to implement new standards beginning in 2011 for televisions up to 58 inches.

Calaveras County Closes School Vaccination Program

San Andreas, CA -- Earlier this week the Calaveras County Health Department closed its eight day H1N1 school vaccination program for the year.

Monday vaccination team members made their final stop at Mokelumne Hill, Rail Road Flat and Jenny Lind Elementary schools. Vaccinations were also offered at Jenny Lind Alternative High School.

Snow closes mountain passes in Sierra

Snow and icy conditions have closed mountain passes on highways 4, 108 and 120 in the Sierra, according to the California Department of Transportation.

The Sonora Pass (108) is closed from 26.4 miles east of Strawberry to 5.3 miles west of junction 395. The Tioga Pass (120) is closed from Crane Flat to five miles west of 395.

Discarded Cigarette Or Match Likely Cause Of The Rock Restaurant Fire

A discarded cigarette or a match was the likely cause of the last week's fire that caused $480,000 damage to The Rock Restaurant in Twain Harte.

The fire was reported minutes before Wednesday midnight. Owners Jim and Diane Dunigan expressed thankfulness that nobody was hurt in the fire. They say they will rebuild and reopen as soon as possible.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Nevada from Tuesday 4 PM through Wednesday 4 AM.

Snow accumulations of up to four inches may be possible by Wednesday morning over the higher elevations. Currently, Highway 108 (Sonora Pass) is closed at Kennedy Meadows.
