Yosemite road closure wasn't such a bad thing

You're trapped for two days, unable to enter or leave. The snow is falling. Getting from Point A to Point B is next to impossible. A dismal situation, right? Not if you're held hostage at Yosemite National Park.

Guests and day-trippers coped with the inconvenience after the park was closed Thursday and Friday when falling trees and heavy snow closed all access roads. It marked the first time Yosemite was shut down since 1997, and the timing couldn't have been worse for Badger Pass.

Ski Bus Returns To Dodge Ridge; Discounted Lifts For Riders Jan. 30-31

Dodge Ridge Wintersports Area and Tuolumne County Transit have teamed up for the second year on a bus service. The service, introduced last winter, proved successful enough to offer again this winter.

The bus service from Sonora runs weekends and holidays to transport local skiers and snowboarders to the resort. The service offers an environmentally friendly option to get to the mountain and a way to leave the driving on Highway 108 to someone else.

Yosemite Is Open

Yosemite, CA -- Almost all roads leading into Yosemite have reopened after being closed due to snow, ice and fallen trees.

Highways 120 and 140 were reopened this morning. Hwy 41 is open from Yosemite Valley to Chinquapin, but is closed south of Yosemite West to Wawona due to fallen trees. Badger Pass Road is open, but the Hetch Hetchy Road will remain closed through the weekend.

Cleaning Up The Mess

Sonora, CA -- Cleanup continues today across the Mother Lode from the winter storms that blasted the region.

Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services Coordinator Kathleen Rustrum says road crews are currently working hard to clean-up the Cedar Ridge area, and it should be clear by evening.

More Snow Hits Motherlode

Most of Twain Harte has been without power since yesterday. According to PG&E recorded messages, they have had equipment damage that they are working to repair. PG&E is currently estimating power restoration sometime after 3:00 p.m., January 26th.

Fortunately, folks in Sugar Pine currently have power, although residents have experienced numerous power outages over the past several days. If you are planning a trip up highway 108 into our winter wonderland, expect to chain up.

Raw Milk, Allergies and Health

Apparently, my little column created a minor stir last week, when Nature's Whole Food Depot actually sold out of Organic Pastures Raw Milk.

When he arrived they told him they don't understand why, but they ran out, which rarely happens. I was very disappointed. So, today my husband stopped to pick some up for me, I was glad they still had some on the shelves. I'm guessing I wasn't the only person in the area who was missing their raw milk.
