Breach of data at TJX is called the biggest ever

At least 45.7 million credit and debit card numbers were stolen by hackers who accessed the computer systems at the TJX Cos. (TJ Max), making it the biggest breach of personal data ever reported, according to security specialists.

TJX believes the hackers last year had the capability to steal payment card data from its Framingham system as transactions were being approved. Even the files TJX tried to protect through encryption may have been compromised because the company believes the hackers had access to the decryption tool.

Thanksgiving: Celebrating Divine Goodness Breaking

We cannot go through the month of November without thinking, "I have so much to be thankful for!" But, instead of thinking the same old Thanksgiving thoughts, I want to encourage you to look at Thanksgiving in a slightly different way this year.

Noah Webster was a man who knew his own history. In his 1828 dictionary, he defined Thanksgiving as: "The act of rendering thanks or expressing gratitude for favors or mercies; 2) A public celebration of divine goodness; also a day set aside for religious services, specially to acknowledge the goodness of God, either in any remarkable deliverance from calamities or danger, or in the ordinary dispensation of his bounties."

Sonora sledding

There's an easy way to experience winter in San Francisco, or at least pretend to. Just wait for the coldest day of the rainy season, open the windows, turn off your heat, and pretend you live in IceHotel.

Or there are plenty of snow towns along Highway 108 offering rental cabins and sled hills all your own - from nearby Strawberry, Pinecrest, and Mi-Wuk Village (all close to Dodge Ridge Ski Resort) to Twain Harte, named for two literary figures claimed by the region.

Numerous businesses depend on snow

Snow on the ground means more than just beautiful landscape to the businesses surrounding ski resorts such as Bear Valley, Kirkwood and Dodge Ridge. It also means a paycheck.

Harte Collection, an antique and handmade gift shop located in Twain Harte, sees a boost in business when nearby Dodge Ridge Ski Resort opens its slopes.
