Sonora Pass was closed briefly after the storms, but was opened a couple days later.  To tell you the truth, I’m really surprised they have opened it for Memorial Day.  This is a maximum enforcement weekend though, and the police are out in force. I guess they have to pay for their salary some way.

It’s supposed to by a hot weekend.  Weather reports are saying it could hit 100°F on Monday.  Wow!

The tourists were out in droves today. I hope the local businesses are busy this weekend.

I can’t believe how many people are still wearing masks.  They really do more harm that good and I’ve heard that from more that one prominent physician.   Wearing masks may increase your risk of coronavirus infection, expert says.

People were good about “social distancing,” that wanted social distance.  Many people didn’t seem as scared as they once were, heck I even got a few hugs from willing friends.  Did you know that hugs are actually good for you? Better than masks, no doubt.

Health Benefits of Hugging: The Important Reason Why Your Body Needs A Hug Every Day!

Hugs can boost immunity

“It’s been shown that people who are under stress and in conflict with others are more susceptible to viruses like the common cold. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University set out to determine whether social support, such as hugging, might in turn be protective against such infections.

It turns out their hypothesis was right. Among 404 adults, those who had greater social support and more frequent hugs during conflicts were less likely to “catch” a cold after they were exposed to the virus. The hugs, researchers said, were responsible for about one-third of the protective effect.”

PG&E are still doing repairs to damaged utility poles around town.

East Avenue is currently closed between Fir Drive and Twain Harte Drive. A detour route is in place. East Avenue will remain closed until the work is completed. It is not immediately clear how long it will take, so you will want to avoid the area.

Memorial Day Events in the Motherlode

At Eproson Park in Twain Harte on Memorial day there will be a Memorial Day Flag Raising Ceremony hosted by VFW Post 4748 Tuolumne and Aaron Rasmussen. The event listing is here. In regards to Covid issues the organizers state: Each individual is responsible for their own safety. Everyone has the right to stay home, but everyone also has the right to assemble; thanks to those that paid the ultimate price with their lives. Next Saturday, May 30th they will host a Memorial Day event at the Tuolumne Veterans Memorial Hall as detailed here.

Banned, Censored, Social Media

Posted by Annie in Twain Harte News on May 19, 2020

I have spent the last few years working on Facebook, neglecting my own work, I’m ashamed to admit. Facebook finally banned me, and I am very glad they did, because otherwise I might never have left.

Facebook Censored

Facebook Censored

I will be spending more time updating my own websites and less time on social media.  It’s going to take getting used to but I think it’s the right thing to do.  I am totally against censorship.  Do you want to know what I did to get banned?

I posted this meme and they took it down, so I posted it again.  Normally, after posting the second time they would leave it be, but not this time.  They removed it again.  So, I put it back up and I was banned from Facebook. All my content, all my uploads and all discussion and posts I’ve made over the last decade to Facebook were removed.

Reich Thing

You Did the Reich Thing

They said it violates community standards.  I don’t know about you, but I find this meme harmless and Facebook’s censorship heavy-handed.  Fortunately, I had added my husband as an administrator to all of my groups and pages, something I highly recommend, in case you ever get banned.  We put notices up on all my pages and groups and removed any pictures that I could.

You are not the customer on Facebook. You are the product.  You are how they make money.  Vote with your feet.  We can stop this but it’s going to take a concerted effort.  Apparently, they think they can survive without people that add content.  Let’s show them the truth.

So, that is why I’m back on my own website and I’ll be posting daily or weekly or whenever there is something to tell you about. What’s on your mind?

Post Office Delays

Posted by Annie in Twain Harte News on May 19, 2020

The post office is shorthanded. They’re hiring 500 new workers to meet the demand.  It’s unclear at this time the reasons behind the shortage of workers in distribution, but it’s causing delays.  There are signs posted not to expect mail delivery to your post office box until 2:00 p.m. daily. This will be for every day until further notice.

The Sportsman Coffee Shop is now seating people inside and they are allowing people to decide for themselves whether to wear masks or not. I’m still trying to figure out, just exactly how does one eat with a mask on?  The chicken fried steak was delicious.  They are still working things out, but stop in and support our local businesses.  They are supposed to have information up on their website, but I couldn’t find any changes yet.

On the way I drove past Twain Harte Lumber and I can’t remember the last time I drove past and saw every single parking space full, but they were.  They offer curbside service as well as inside shopping.  Looked to me like most people were inside shopping.  I’m so glad to see so many people using our local hardware store.

Shop Local!  Shop Often!

Stay safe.
