It actually got down to 21 degrees last night. It rarely gets below 25 degrees in Twain Harte. When it gets down this low, it reminds me of living in Michigan, where it could get down to 20 or 30 below in the wintertime. I don’t miss that frigid cold weather. We used to put plastic on the windows, window socks and door foam…anything to keep out the winter cold.
Be sure to check those water pipes. It’s 37 degrees now, but it won’t get much warmer today. The chicken’s water froze over on the top and they weren’t really interesting in coming outside the coop. Go figure!
So, come on up, enjoy the snow! But remember to carry chains and please take home whatever you bring. Don’t leave it here to harm the animals or for others to clean up. Pay close attention to the weather! It can change very quickly, especially at the higher elevations.
Watch out for black ice! Please, just because the speed limit is 65 mph, doesn’t mean you have to drive that fast. Those figures are for optimal driving conditions. When in doubt, slow down. The life you save may be your own.
Winter Driving Emergency Survival Tips
If you enjoy nature, while you’re slowing down, look for the deer, they are everywhere. The thing about nature is that no matter how often you post them, the animals will continue to ignore street signs and highways. We have encroached on their territory. Give them some room and have a camera ready. See you in the snow!

P.S. They are continuing to spray the air with chemicals and in all likelihood the snow is probably contaminated. If you are out to play in the stuff, keep covered up. Wash your hands and face often. Shower as soon as possible. You may want to boost your vitamin intake for awhile. Be safe!
