I love this weather! Don’t you? It’s not too cold, not too hot. We’ve had some wonderful summer breezes, so much so that I’ve been keeping a jacket handy just in case. At my age I’m cold one minute and hot the next.
I’ve tried planting some Brass Buttons and some Baby Tears. Neither fared very well. But they were both in the sun and they need shade. I don’t know where I’m going to plant them, I’m considering putting them in pots. I just don’t know.
I’m having trouble focusing because my mother does not have long to live and she’s clear across the country. So, I talk to her when I can and pray for her in between. In the meantime, life has a way of continuing on, whether we like it or not. To cope, I’ve taken to feeding my family some pretty unusual dishes. Yesterday, I made some delightful Caramel & Salt Cupcakes. It was like eating a little slice of heaven and I think I can make them even better.
I’ve been making homemade Chicken Cordon Bleu, oh the macaroni and cheese… I don’t want to brag but Shawn said, “I really don’t like Macaroni and Cheese but this is really good. In fact, it’s the best Macaroni and Cheese I’ve ever had.”
Well I have to tell you, that is the best compliment a cook can get. It makes me feel better knowing my family is happy when my heart is breaking inside. I know it’s her time to go but it’s so very hard. She was my friend, my confidante (even if she couldn’t keep a secret), she was my mother and I know her history…well, much of it. I have a feeling there is a lot going to the grave with her and that’s her right.
I wouldn’t trade a minute of it. The good, the bad and the ugly make us who we are.
Last July 4th weekend I lost my cat and a deer died on our property. I figure an animal got my cat and I’m okay with that — the circle of life and all that. The deer? It had been hit by a car, slid down a hill and got stuck in a thicket of trees. His shoulder was gone and he was dying. Over four hours I waited with him to die. It was an emotionally draining time.
June is the anniversary of my fathers birthday, my fathers death and father’s day. I will be very happy when this month is over.
If your coming to the mountains this weekend, you will need a jacket and if you are going higher than Twain Harte bring along some warm stuff, it gets really chilly in the evening and I would consider bring the chains — just in case. It’s been a strange summer so far.
Enjoy the weekend, be safe. Take your time and remember on the way up the mountain there is only one lane in and one lane out, slow down and be courteous. Remember fireworks are illegal in Tuolumne County.
Fireworks illegal in most places, discouraged in others
Law enforcement and fire prevention officers across the Mother Lode are reminding the public about the varying rules and regulations governing the use of fireworks.
While legal in some parts of Calaveras County, fireworks are outlawed throughout Tuolumne County and the Stanislaus National Forest.
Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Wilson said it’s not only illegal to set off the fireworks, but the mere possession of any type of firework is outlawed as well.
So, keep it safe and please watch out for deer. 🙂
