Snow in the Mountains

Wow, what a difference a day makes. Last night it rained fairly hard, but we only managed to get 2.5 inches of rain. Around midnight or so, it began to snow. We didn’t get a lot, only about 3″, but it was so beautiful…while it lasted. It’s raining again.

Snowshoeing at Dodge Ridge

Snowshoeing at Dodge Ridge

Things will be winding down at Dodge Ridge, so if you’re going to tackle the slopes, this would be the weekend to do it. The news from Dodge is…

23″ in the last 24 hours – Season Pass Holders Load at 8am Tomorrow!

3/16/12 – 8:20am: In the last 24 hours we received 23″ of fresh powder at the summit & 15″ at the base & expect additional accumulations today with more for tonight thru Sunday, snow levels down to 4,000ft.

All you snow hounds will love that. So, do drive carefully. The roads are clear now, but if you do travel to Dodge Ridge this weekend, take it easy going home. As the temperatures drop on the mountain, the chances of ice on the road increases.

Spring begins on March 20th this year. So, while we may get a little more snow, we can’t stop Spring from coming. Those of you who hate the snow — it will all be over soon.

Spring has Sprung — a leak

Get out the umbrella, dig out those galoshes and don’t forget the rain coat! It’s wet out there. It’s only been raining a couple of hours and we already have an inch and a half. But that’s not all…

Mymotherlode.com is calling for snow once again, in the forecast issued yesterday.

Winter Storm Warning Issued For Sierra Nevada — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra Nevada from Friday 5 PM through Saturday 5 PM.

Snow levels will begin around 4500 feet before lowering to 3000 feet on Saturday.

Light snow accumulations are possible from 3000 through 3500 feet. Four to eight inches of snow is likely above 4000 through 5000 feet.

We could really get it this time… or it could fizzle and just give us rain. Only time will tell. (I’m crossing my fingers hoping for snow.)

Ticks a problem

With this warmer weather comes fleas and ticks.

English: Deer ticks 3 species

Deer ticks

It’s trying really hard to snow right now, in fact it was coming down pretty hard only this morning. There is no telling how much snow we will end up with. Some how, I don’t think it will be enough.

We’ve picked three ticks off our dogs in the past couple of weeks. We used a powder on the yard and a liquid to help alleviate the problem. Then we took the puppies to the vet for some Frontline. I really hate to use that stuff, but the ticks are so bad this year, I don’t know what else to do.

Wherever there are deer, you will find deer ticks. I feel so sorry for the deer. I just wish the ticks would pick somewhere else. Anywhere else. Every single one has been on their face, which makes it kind of difficult to detach. If you haven’t picked up some Frontline, don’t wait. Ticks are nothing to mess with and they can spread disease.

It’s 35° now and it’s going to be a chilly day. I’d be surprised if it gets much above 45°. The sun is out but I don’t think it’s done snowing. If anything happens I’ll let you know.
