Those making their way up the mountain will want to be extra careful tonight. The winds have really been playing havoc today.
My Motherlode reports:
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the Sierra Nevada from 10pm this evening through 10am Saturday morning.
Winds of fifteen to thrity mph are expected with gusts reaching forty-five to fifty-five mph.
We saw a really neat van yesterday in Sonora, but frankly, I would hate to have to drive it today in all this wind. It was a sharp looking van by Airstream that was like a mini-motor home, they call it The Airstream Interstate Touring Coach. The one we saw actually had a very large carrier on the top, which appeared to be made especially for the Interstate Touring Coach. All I know is it looked to be very top heavy.
I have to laugh at all the wind we are having today, because when we saw the nifty van, I commented to my husband that I would hate to drive that across the Altamont Pass. It was a sweet looking ride though. My advice to the driver, stop and get a room somewhere. :)
Drive safe and have a wonderful weekend.

The town has swelled in numbers as is usual for Memorial Day weekend. I had a good chuckle yesterday. You would have thought it was Friday on a holiday weekend. I could hardly believe how many people were shopping at the Twain Harte Market.

Twain Harte Memorial Day Parade 2004
As I was checking out the produce section, I overheard one man telling another that it snows every month of the year here in Twain Harte. I don’t recall it actually snowing here in Twain Harte during the months of July and August but a little further up the hill and he would have it just about right.
I hope you brought your warm woolies this weekend, temperatures have been dipping down into the 40′s at night.
I’ve been talking to my mother, who still resides in Michigan. Here she is complaining about the heat and how temperatures have been in the 80′s. In fact, she finally turned her air conditioner on yesterday. It was just last week we put our portable heaters back in storage. So, with only one heater left here at the house, it’s been more than a little chilly.
The Twain Harte Lumber Store still has plenty of pellets if anyone is in need. I stopped in just yesterday and picked up a few extra bags to get us through the week. Temperatures are supposed to be down in the 40′s all week long. I can wait for the summer heat to hit.
Have a happy Memorial Day weekend. If you are looking for things to do this weekend, visit Annette’s Favorite Links.

Snow Again!
When I was a child growing up in the Great Lakes State, the weather was very unpredictable. Michiganders such as myself were fond of saying, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes, It’ll change,” and it was true. We never knew what kind of weather we would see during the day.
Michiganders grow up expecting the unexpected, the trouble is I do not live in Michigan any more but I am still learning to expect the unexpected.
I woke up early this morning to the sound of a hard pounding rain. We were way past “raining cats and dogs,” I think Lake Michigan opened up on us and poured out of the sky. I worked a little while and decided that I could use a nap and went back to bed. I’ve always enjoyed sleeping through a nice rain storm or even a thunderstorm.
Then around 9 or 10 a.m. it began to snow – hard, it was really coming down. I woke up to more snow on the ground. I cannot believe I am saying this, but we have at least three inches of snow on the ground. It snowed all the way down to East Sonora.
I feel a little like Alice in Wonderland. Each time I open the front door, I am never sure what I will find on the other side.

Skechers Shape Ups
The sky was really dark, overcast and heavy this morning. Now, the sun is shining, the sky is clear and everywhere you look, snow is falling off the trees in huge clumps. Don’t forget the sunglasses today. You will need them.
Normally, I am all for the snow but I have to say that I am a little discouraged today. We made a trip to Kohl’s on Saturday (I can’t wait until our new Kohl’s Department store finally opens.) and picked up a pair of Skechers Shape Ups and I am really looking forward to getting outside and walking more. I guess it won’t be today. I love my new shoes and I’m certainly now wearing them out in the rain and snow.
