It’s cold, cold, cold in the mountains. It was about 27 degrees outside this morning. It’s warmed up to a current temperature of 31 degrees. Brrrrrrrrr
An animation showing seasonal snow changes.
We were expecting snow on Tuesday that didn’t arrive. The air force is still spraying chemicals overhead and I firmly believe that this is part of the problem. I believe they are trying to empty out this part of the country, to create their wildlife corridor that I’ve read so much about.
Apparently they can keep the snow away, but they aren’t able to control the cold.
Snow Play still has snow – well – rather ice. Fast Ice. So, if you plan to do some sledding be aware that the mountain is all ice. This is what they had to say on their website:
We have snow. We DO NOT have a lot; no one does. We need to be 100% honest with you. We are still in the middle of a drought, and we DO NOT have the 3-4 feet of snow we should. We are OPEN with the snow we have, but the hills are icy, hard…
It’s refreshing to see someone being honest with the public. These people are great! They have been packed lately. I hope we get some snow soon. They could make all the snow they want but California won’t allow it. It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard of. It’s a shame too. If he could stay open most of the winter, the kids would have fun stuff to do, local businesses would benefit and it would help tourism in the county.
Makes you wonder what they have against small businesses. Enjoy the snow while we have it. I have a feeling it’s going to be another rough year here.
It snowed last night, here in Twain Harte we got about two inches. The snow stopped falling about midnight or so. I was afraid that was all we were going to get then about 6:45 a.m., it started snowing big flakes, we could end up getting more accumulation yet.
Here’s the weather report:
- Today – Snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
- Tonight – Rain and snow showers likely, becoming all snow after 11 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
- Wednesday – A chance of snow showers before 11 am, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 43. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
- Wednesday Night – Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. West northwest wind around 7 mph becoming east northeast in the evening.
Right now it’s 29° in Twain Harte, quite the change from last weeks lows in the high 40’s.
We could be in for it this time! The weather report says 8 inches at 4,000 feet and 1-2 feet at 5,000. Let’s hope their right, the problem is the weather man is almost always wrong. I’m expecting about a foot of snow, it’s cold and it feels like it’s going snow and hard.
Which leads me to my other problem(s). We now have a cat, 2 dogs and 12 chickens, which are only 8-days old. I can’t believe how much they have grown. Yet, they still are so small. I’ve been having a time with the dogs and the cat. They get so excited, when I let them out to see the birds, that they try to scratch under the pen. But, realistically they are pretty good — all things considered.
I get a quite a work out, cleaning the pen and providing fresh food and water. It’s fun but I’m much more careful with these birds than I ever was, when we had or farm and raised chickens. The biggest challenge in going to be keeping them warm with all this snow coming. I have two infrared lights (I am not even going to thing about what that’s doing to our electric bill.
I know that it will be worth it in the end. We will love having eggs and fresh chicken but I sure am tired. Bundle up, stay warm. I’ll keep you posted if not here, on Facebook, join us.
